BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts – Musical Theatre (Triple)

COURSE oVERVIEW

This is an exciting and varied course developing technique and performance skills in; singing, dancing, and acting (you need to have experience in at least two of these before joining the course). It aims to provide budding West End stars with the skills to apply for higher education courses or vocational training in the industry. You will have technique classes and workshops as well as numerous performance opportunities. You will undertake work experience in the community and will focus on the high standards needed in the musical theatre industry. Students on the triple course cover the same content as the single course but also take further modules to include developing their own performance material for external events, gaining teaching experience, developing self-promotion materials, and networking. Students on the triple will also have greater performance opportunities within this course as they will generate more content from the triple elements. You will also undertake a large-scale collaborative project, where you will learn about the administrative roles of working in the performing arts as well as the creative roles. Please note that this course can not be taken in combination with any other BTEC Performing Arts course, but can be taken as a Triple option.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of two years’ recent significant performance experience and a grade 4 in GCSE English Language would be desirable.

The course is ideal for performers who want to develop their skills in acting, singing, and dance. The course will prepare you for applications to prestigious musical theatre schools and university courses. You will have excellent teaching and learning and excellent facilities, including a 300-seat theatre.

How will I be taught?

You will have 4 classes per week, which take part in the professional-standard rehearsal studios. You will be required to complete written work for homework tasks such as research and evaluations, as well as essays and coursework. This will prepare you well for the academic rigour required at university level.

What skills will I develop?

You will develop your musical theatre skills, knowledge, and experience in acting, singing, and dancing. You will aim to become a triple-threat performer, You will take part in singing classes and dance classes and learn how to act through singing and dancing performance.

You will also develop your performance, technique, and creative skills. You will learn how to analyse musical theatre by looking at professional set works. You will develop communication skills, leadership skills, team-building skills, creativity, and confidence. You will gain skills in critical thinking and how to formulate your own ideas and opinions in response to professional works and your own work. In this course you will study all 3 disciplines of; acting, singing techniques and movement skills, however the main focus for this course is singing and dancing. You will learn skills and techniques whilst developing your performance knowledge and abilities in all 3 genres accumulating in live productions created for an audience. You will study a range of styles and influences within performing arts, which will fully prepare you for the world of work outside after your training.

Where does it lead?

The course is designed to train students to become performers and work professionally in the performing arts industry. However, the vast experience that the students will gain can also lead to jobs in teaching, sound and lighting design, costume and set design, directing, marketing, and PR to name but a few. Our students travel the length and breadth of the country and abroad after they leave sixth form. This year has been our most successful year to date with more students than ever going on to study at prestigious institutions. Students have gained places at The Hammond, Goldsmiths, The Arden Theatre School, Performers College, and the University of Creative Arts in London to name but a few!
