The TechBacc (Technical Baccalaureate) is ideal for ambitious, talented students who want to pursue a technology-based career. It will give you the opportunity to be stretched and demonstrate your personal best. This new qualification combines a double or triple BTEC level 3 qualification, with work- based projects and maths skills to give you a head start in a wide range of exciting careers.
Which subjects are available?
There are three TechBacc options at Blackpool Sixth: Engineering, IT and Creative Media.
How many courses will I do?
The TechBacc consists of a double BTEC level 3, a further single BTEC or AS level choice, a Core Maths or AS Maths qualification and the work-based project (EPQ). Students taking the Engineering or ICT TechBacc have the further option of taking the triple BTEC level 3, in which case they do not need the single BTEC or AS choice.
How will it help my career plans?
You will be able to apply your skills and knowledge in projects that link you to employers and universities. There will also be work placement or internship opportunities. You will complete 100 hours work-based experience during the two years of the programme. All this will make you stand out when applying for university and jobs.
What are the entry requirements?
At least 2 B grades and 4 C grades in 6 different GCSEs (or equivalent), including GCSE Maths and English at C or above. For the TechBacc in Engineering you need to have done higher tier GCSE Maths. A B grade in higher tier Maths is required to take AS Maths.
Why develop my Maths skills?
Good numeracy skills at a level above GCSE are sought after by employers and will increase your earning potential and career progression. You will be able to access a much wider range of university courses and careers.
