Singing sensation Verity wows London audience

Verity Kinnon is aiming for the top after winning a prestigious open mic competition in London with her singing partner Rhys Watkins.

The Blackpool Sixth student is studying BTEC Music, A levels in Law and Drama & Theatre Studies.  The duo won the Under 16s Open Mic UK competition at the O2 arena with their own song, One More Month.

Since their winning performance, the two former Montgomery High School students have been approached by Simon Cowell’s Syco management company.

“I would love to perform on the X Factor,” said Verity, “But I really want to continue writing my own music and singing , both with Rhys and as a solo performer.”

Verity is hoping to study music at either Leeds or Liverpool after finishing her studies at sixth form.

“I’ve really enjoyed performing in bands on my music course here and would love to do more of that,” she said.

And Verity’s biggest influence musically? ” I love Lewis Capaldi and his writing style is very similar to mine. I’m a real fan of his ballads and his lyrics are very poignant.”
