Brontë experience for literature students
A group of students from The Blackpool Sixth Form College recently visited one of the most iconic buildings in world literature.
The students, all first year A level English literature students visited the Brontë parsonage in Haworth, Yorkshire. The visit was to help them with background to their study of the novel, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë.
They very much enjoyed delving into the histories of the Brontë sisters by visiting each of the rooms in the house. This has given them a deeper insight into the lives, beliefs and values of the celebrated writers.
The students listened to two presentations from parsonage staff, one on the family background and roots of the Brontë family, and one on the novel Jane Eyre.
English literature teacher, Rebecca Lawn commented, “The visit allowed students to build on their understanding of the novel and learn more about the reasons behind the creation of certain characters and aspects of Jane’s journey.”
