Celebrating healthy minds and hearts in Mental Health Awareness week
Students and staff have been celebrating Mental Health Awareness week with a range of activities and support from across the community.
Connect Sexual health came into Blackpool Sixth with free giveaways and testing kits, the YMCA gave out free one-day gym passes and mental health charity Headstart gave out advice on building resilience.
Carmen Matiaigo, from the college’s additional learning support department, said: “We had healthy snacks on offer, a craft and knitting table, stress toys, mindfulness colouring, a kindness board and things you love about yourself tree.
“In addition, our Fyi library had lots of resources on how to relieve stress and exam stress tips and students from social sciences and psychology also set up stalls in the college foyer.
“The event was a success and provided students with an opportunity to consider ways they can better manage their anxiety, particularly with exams starting and some students considering the transition to university.
“It was also a chance for students to consider body image and how resilient they were to the influences of social media.”
