Computer games impress Merlin
Blackpool Sixth BTEC Level 3 IT students have been busy creating computer games with a serious business aim in mind. They worked on a brief set by Merlin Entertainments Blackpool to create a computer game that advertises the company and encourages tourism in Blackpool. As an added incentive, Merlin kindly offered a prize for the best game.
The games the students came up with were judged on how professional they look and how well they fit the needs of Merlin. They all had to be based on the entertainments Merlin operates in Blackpool.
Just before half-term, Lucy Hodge, Merlin Blackpool’s business development manager and marketing manager, Louise Forder, came into college to carry out the judging.
The overall prize went to Jaxon Turner whose innovative and carefully researched game won special praise from both judges.
Louise Forder commented, “We were very impressed with the obvious time taken and skills shown by all of the students.
We chose our winner based on the fact he had embodied all of the Blackpool tower’s five attractions, including key characters, offers and the design.”
Jaxon’s prize was a ‘big ticket’ for four people to all of Blackpool’s Merlin attractions.
