FCAT Humanities Challenge
HIGH school students from across the Fylde coast were pitted against each other in a quiz hosted by Blackpool Sixth’s humanities department.
The aim of the quiz was to boost interest in humanities subjects and included questions on geography, history, ancient history, religion, ethics & philosophy and law, using their knowledge from school subjects and the wider media.
Montgomery High School, Unity Academy Blackpool, Blackpool Aspire Academy and Hodgson Academy each brought a team of four year 9 students.
Hodgson Academy were the eventual winners after the final round, with Blackpool Aspire Academy runners-up.
Hodgson student Ryan Simnett said: “We got selected for this challenge for being top of our humanities classes at school.
“The event today was great for building my confidence, I really enjoyed working as a team and hope to continue studying humanities after high school.”
Blackpool Sixth Geography teacher Matt Morris said: “The point of the event was to get our feeder high schools interested in humanities in the wider world and the students really got engaged with the questions.”
