Former students’ band Jekyll makes the Radio One playlist
IT’S been a massive year for local band Jekyll, who have signed a record contract and are now recording a session for Radio One.
The band comprises of ex-Blackpool Sixth students, Joel Foster, Lewis Armistead, Liam Singleton and Mike Spence.
The band has recently been signed by the Fierce Panda label, whose alumni include Coldplay, Keane and Supergrass to name a few.
Joel Foster, said: “We got our first Radio 1 play from Huw Stephens for So Wrong and have had every song we’ve released since played too.
“Not long ago, Huw’s people got in touch asking to organise a live session for BBC Introducing at Maida Vale studios and we got booked in.
“The performance will be broadcast on Huw’s show on Radio 1 at some point soon.”
Ash Goodinson, music teacher, said: “All of the band studied music at college. Liam and Joel in particular were ambitious lads wanting to make their own music.
“It’s amazing that their persistence has got them to where they are now. It just shows that if you have determination and a dream you can be a success.
“Most students go onto university but choosing to go it alone isn’t the easiest path and this just shows it’s possible if you have the persistence and work hard you can succeed.”
The band’s latest single, Echoes, was released on March 1st, and is available via Spotify, https://open.spotify.com/track/4uPwIrdacTL3lDr4l259dT?si=LV3XkHpeS1qk6GaoNN_dzg
