Harry’s masterclass for young rugby stars
A rising Wigan Warriors star has been putting Fleetwood RUFC under 9s through their paces in a special training session.
Harry Rushton, 17, from Cleveleys, is currently studying for his A levels in business studies, economics and psychology at Blackpool Sixth and is also a loose forward for Wigan Warriors’ U19 side.
He took time from his studies this weekend to coach the under 9s team at their Fleetwood ground.
“I really enjoyed the session, the children got a lot out of it and they seemed to really enjoy it,” said Harry. “It was great for me to experience teaching young children, I have done coaching before but with older ones at Wigan.”
Harry’s coaching session has contributed to his work experience for his employability award at the sixth form.
Business studies tutor at Blackpool Sixth Danny Topping is also the under 9s coach: “When I heard that Harry was doing the business studies employability award I thought a coaching session would be an excellent opportunity for both him and our kids – a win-win!
“Harry led the whole session and did a number of activities that involved passing, footwork, tackling and teamwork.
“The kids loved every minute and I am sure the experience will stay with them for years to come.
“One of the boys even asked if Harry could come back next week and I suggested Harry return next season to give a team-talk before we play our arch rivals Fylde!”
Harry’s rugby career is on the up and he is hoping to make his debut for the first team at Wigan next season.
“I reckon he has a ready-made fan club amongst our team who will be following his professional career,” added Danny.
