Public services students celebrate army lions win
Blackpool Sixth’s public services students are celebrating their victory in the North West’s FE College Army Lions competition.
The team competed against Blackpool & Fylde College, Hugh Baird College, Blackburn College, Lancaster & Morecambe College and Burnley College in six challenges at Altcar Army Camp, Liverpool. These were: a shooting challenge, assault course, nuclear and team challenges, observation and stalking, team challenges and section attacks.
Officer in charge of the winning group, Skylah Hunt, said: “The challenge really tested each of us in the team but with the team work and knowledge of army life that we took with us, it really helped towards winning the challenge.
“We all knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses and used these to help in each task. It was a fun filled an competitive day for us all and we were up against some very good teams but there could only be one winner and I am proud that we took that title.”
Paul Moran, public service tutor, said: “Our eight selected students have been working hard in preparation for this event, from yoga sessions to extra PT sessions, and even a dodge-ball game against Blackpool and Fylde college.
“On the day, the students were totally independent and tutors were not allowed to support. The way they behaved and performed was truly outstanding.
“To a person, they oozed natural leadership, teamwork and discipline, and have been rewarded with the title. We are extremely proud of what they have done and they are excited to go and defend their title next year.”
The team comprised of: Skylah Hunt (OCI), Ben Albutt (2 IC), Olivia Poole, Laura Klavina, Jess Jackson, Sam Smith, Seb Brindle and Josh Austin.
